My List of Greatest Orators

My List of Greatest Orators

1. Winston Churchill - Saved the world with his speeches. The greatest politician in history.
2. Martin Luther King - Made a speech about climbing mountains or did I miss the point. Seriously, a great orator and man.
3. Gorbachev - Not really a great speaker, in fact he sent most people to sleep but 2 words ended the cold war - Glasnost and Perestrioka. One of the most important figures of the 20th Century.
4. President Kennedy - A student of Churchill. Used some fancy words in German but the myth exceeded the reality. His brother would have made a better President.
5. Muhammed Ali - Not a politician but made many inspiring, funny and sincere speeches. His anti-vietnam war stance highlighted a bad war.
6. President Obama - Great orator but can go on a bit too long sometimes. Charismatic but not like Martin Luther King Jnr, Mandela nor Ali. Has not made the difference that many of us expected.
7. Neil Kinnock - To many (especially Conservatives) he was a waffler but nevertheless made one of the best Labour conference speeches which Hatton and Heffer didn't agree with ! Also made an inappropriate victory speech before the general election was held and lost it as a consequence. He made a great speech after the election but in so doing admitted he didn't accept the democratic wishes of the people.
8. Enoch Powell - Made the infamous and unforgettable `Rivers of Blood Speech' in which he predicted a deterioration in race relations in Britain, although the decline in race relations may have had something to do with his speech !
9. Adolf Hitler - Some say he was a great orator the rest of us thought he was a complete madman on drugs who shouted and flapped his arms around a lot. Talked about a great German empire; didn't quite work out that way, mind you they are good at football.
10. John Lennon - Annoyed the americans with one of his interviews about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus. He didn't really mean it but that didn't matter and they burnt their records (presumably after buying them).  He made the rest of us laugh with his other comments.
