Description: 18th Century Gothic House. Led the Gothic revival. Designed by Horace Walpole. First example of Gothic house inside and outside. Influenced design of Houses of Parliament, St Pancreas Station & Other buildings. Internal gold gilded finish. White lime-wash finish to external walls. Labyrinth of gloomy stairwells and corridors. Rooms bursting with colour.Until then Gothic style was only a preserve of medieval cathedrals and churches.Ceiling in one room from Henry vii Chapel. At the time Architects were influenced by architecture from Greece but Walpole turned back to medieval period in the UK.

Lottery Funding: Won lottery funding to refurbish and restore Listed Building. Budget = £9 million
