Ask the Experts: New Windows

We desperately need new windows in our house. Could you tell us how we can do this economically?

You should buy windows that will help you realise long-term savings. Energy-saving glass reflects radiated heat (drawn from the inside or the outside)
back into a room, and can reduce heat loss through your windows by up to 50%. It is able to achieve a window energy rating of A with an energy efficient window frame, and can be fitted as either double or triple glazing. The cost of fitting a window with energy efficient glass is roughly the same as fitting a window with standard double glazing. Typically, you could expect to pay between £400 and £1,000 per window. Suppliers: planitherm.com and oaklandglass.co.uk.
